TITLE:                                   English Language Teacher/Interventionist

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

    1. Bachelor’s Degree in Education with endorsements appropriate for the grade level or content area(s)   
    2. Current certification as set by the Arizona Department of Education for the position being filled, including Structured English Emersion      
    3. Five (5) years’ successful teaching experience K-4th grades, including experience with second language students
    4. Positive recommendations from past employers and/or training institution(s)    
    5. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with colleagues, supervisors, and other personnel 

             Alternative to the above qualifications as the Governing Board finds appropriate and acceptable.

WORKS CLOSELY WITH:    Teachers, Counselors, Paraprofessionals, Volunteers, Director of English Language Programs

 

JOB GOAL:                          To help students learn English language that will contribute to their intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development to become mature, able, and responsible adults. 

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Implement District-approved curriculum.
    2. Use only District-approved materials including textbooks, supplemental materials, and computer programs and software.
    3. Plan, prepare, and tech well-developed lessons which stimulate and inspire second language students and promote the enjoyment of learning.
    4. Deliver group, and individual instruction based on a variety of assessment data, differentiating to meet the specific needs of individual students.
    5. Implement and maintain use of District-recognized instructional practices.
    6. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
    7. Create and consistently implement a behavior management plan for the classroom to assure the safety and well-being of students.
    8. Assess the academic progress of students on a regular basis, collaborating with grade level colleagues and the Instructional Coach to analyze progress data.
    9. Advise parents/guardians of student progress related to the expectations of the grade of content area, encouraging them to reinforce classroom goals in the home environment.
    10. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records required by law, District Policy, and administrative regulations.
    11. Supervise students within the classroom and other assigned areas to maintain students’ health and safety.
    12. Provide support for English Language students in their regular classrooms as appropriate.
    13. Administer and maintain records for AZELLA testing in accordance with District and State requirements.
    14. Provide instruction as part of the site’s Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions as time permits.
    15. Implement District and site safety, health, wellness, and hygiene practices as directed.
    16. Participate collaboratively in district meetings and committees as required, contributing to the improvement of specific and overall goals for improving student outcomes.
    17. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, personnel, equipment, materials and facilities.
    18. Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and District Policies.
    19. Participate in ongoing professional growth opportunities both within the district and with outside opportunities.
    20. Perform other tasks as directed by the Principal.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:     1488 hours per year (returning teachers) or 1512 hours per year (new teachers) according to the appropriate work calendar with a one-year work agreement.  Salary to be established with the Board.
