TITLE: Transportation Director

CONTRACT TERMS: 11-Month

SALARY CLASSIFICATION: Support Staff Salary Schedule/ Exempt

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ensures the health and safety of students, staff and the general public by supervising all operations within the transportation department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned by the Superintendent.

TRANSPORTATION

● Supervises the safety and welfare of all operations regarding the transportation of students

● Notifies the Superintendent of school bus changes, delays, accidents or problems in a timely manner

● Notifies all appropriate parties of transportation changes which may include bus stop times or student route updates

● Drives vehicles if necessary

● Communicates with Director of Student Services and drivers for the purpose of assisting with student discipline

● Evaluates and processes daily district transportation needs

● Dispatches vehicles and ensures the safety of drivers leaving and returning to school

● Assures that all regular and additional routes are covered by assigning drivers to fill in when necessary while maintaining equity in assignment of drivers and minimizing overtime

● Updates the Superintendent regularly on the department's operations

● Approves field trip requests with school administration and arranges transportation

REPORTING

● Coordinates and maintains routing program by assigning bus routes and stops for all students and reviews it often for accuracy

● Maintains daily route logs and records of activities, such as field trips and services miles, for all drivers

● Completes and submits all transportation reports on a timely basis, as required

● Tracks, monitors and approves expenditures of department funds in accordance with school procurement policies

PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT

● Ensures all drivers maintain proper certificates and qualifications to drive

● Recruits, trains, supervises, and evaluates transportation personnel and makes recommendations related to employment and termination

● Coordinates and provides bus driver trainings and safety meetings

● Coordinates resolution of bus citations with the administrative team

SAFETY AND MAINTENANCE

● Ensures Arizona Department of Transportation and Department of Public Safety minimum standards are met

● Ensures vehicles are safety inspected before and after each route and properly maintained and cleaned by all drivers as necessary

● Coordinates all maintenance of District vehicles and equipment used for transportation

● Oversees the maintenance of vehicle repair and maintenance records and ensures availability of supplies, materials and fuel are available to operate in an efficient and cost effective manner

● Coordinates transportation inventory control

● Oversees vehicles usage and scheduling

● Oversees all safety drills and requirements are current and practiced regularly and correctly

● Evaluates the safety of road conditions during inclement weather and works collaboratively with the Superintendent to make recommendations for school delays and/or closures

A. REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred

● One to three years related experience and/or training

● Must have bus driving experience

● Computer proficiency required

● Ability to communicate and work well with staff and the general public and speak effectively to employees of the organization

● Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

B. REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

 ● Valid Arizona Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger endorsement

● Department of Public Safety Trainer Certification

● Current First Aid and CPR certification
