Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY
This job requires driving a school bus to transport students to and from school in a safe and 
efficient manner so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the District’s 
curriculum and extracurricular program.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty 
satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
▪  High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
▪  Commercial Driver’s License – “S” and “P” endorsements.
▪  Must maintain a current record of CPR and 1ˢᵗ Aide.
▪  School Bus Certification.
▪  Must meet all requirements for Performance Agility Test as outlined in Minimum Standards.
▪  Must possess an excellent driving record.
▪  Must have the authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform 
Act of 1986.
▪  Must have and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Level One Fingerprint 
Clearance Card.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES, SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:
▪  Adhere to the District vision, mission, core values, and goals in collaboration with staff.
▪  Demonstrate a high regard for confidential and sensitive information.
▪  Obeys all Arizona traffic laws.
▪  Comply with the District’s attendance standards as described in the established guidelines.
▪  Team player and get along well with others.
▪  Detailed-oriented, and self-motivated.
▪  Excellent communication skills.
▪  Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
▪  Instruct students in the rules and regulations of safe bus riding and evacuation procedures.
▪  Manage and handle conduct of students and passengers while they are on the bus.
▪  Ensure students are transported safely and securely between residences and schools and/or 
between schools and approved field trips keeping to the assigned time schedule.
▪  Transport and discharges authorized students at authorized stops.
▪  Supervises loading and unloading of Elementary and Middle School students.
▪  Responsible for the enforcement of all Arizona restraint laws, accident procedures and bus 
evacuation plans.
▪  Participate in training to assist students who are medically fragile and have special medical 
needs (e.g., secure students with appropriate restraints, tie downs, wheelchairs, seat belts, 
etc.).
▪  Communicate effectively (verbal and written) with students, parents, teachers and district 
personnel at all levels.
▪  Report and/or prepare documentation regarding accidents, observations and/or incidents (e.g., 
incident reports, inspections, student count, passenger misconduct, etc.) to the proper personnel.
▪  Flexibility with scheduled workload: morning, midday, and afternoon bus routes every weekday.
▪  Work effectively under time constraints.

Governing Board Approved:

▪  Assess potential emergency situations on or around the school bus.
▪  Complete documentation required to ensure the bus meets all State and Federal guidelines for 
safe operation in addition to pre-trip inspections, post-trip inspections, mileage logs, student 
counts, special needs students, disciplinary forms (if applicable), and field trip sheets.
▪  Keeps assigned bus clean both interior and exterior and fueled
▪  Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
▪  Attend training programs to maintain skills and meet requirements of school bus certificate.
▪  Excellent memory and ability to function well under stress.
▪  Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and/or assistance,
▪  Demonstrate flexibility, common sense, and good judgment.
▪  Ability to keep abreast of information pertinent to the job.
▪  Read and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule 
form.
▪  Meet any additional specific job requirements as indicated by the department.
▪  Assist other personnel as may be required to support them in the completion of their work 
activities.
▪  Performs other related duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills to 
meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of 
the job.
