Salary Range:

$105,000.00 - $125,000.00 USD annually.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Executive Director of Academics (K–12) is responsible for the development, implementation, and management of ASU Prep’s instructional, curricular, assessment, special education/student support-aligned academic systems, and academic improvement strategy across all K–12 campuses. This role establishes a clear vision of instructional excellence, ensures alignment between daily lesson delivery and standards/AASA rigor, builds a consistent coaching and professional learning model, and drives disciplined progress monitoring to produce predictable growth.

In partnership with the Head of Schools, the Executive Director of Academics supports the instructional direction and academic operating model (“the what and how” of instruction). The Executive Director of Academics works closely with the Executive Director of Operations to ensure the conditions to execute the model (time, staffing models, schedules, and workflows).

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree required; Doctorate preferred.

  • Seven (7) years of experience in educational leadership positions, overseeing curriculum or academics and driving significant results in a high-performance growth organization.

  • Administrative certification.

  • Previous experience as a Principal or Director, preferred.

  • Active AZ Department of Public Safety (DPS) IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.

  • Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the Head of Schools in planning the instructional, curricular, special education, student services and research affairs of ASU Preparatory Academy.

  • Communicate and implement the ASU Preparatory Academy mission with the schools and community.

  • Communicate a network-wide vision of instructional excellence (K–12) to reduce classroom variability and ensure consistent academic expectations.

  • Conduct a curriculum and assessment audit to ensure standards alignment and clarity of AASA-level rigor across K–12

  • Strengthen PLC structures by establishing weekly protocols for analyzing student work, planning reteach, and aligning interventions.

  • Supervise immersion leadership and instructional staff of ASU Preparatory Academy, under the supervision of the Head of Schools, in such a manner as to provide the best possible educational services with the resources available.

  • Supervise and evaluate other members of the immersion network team as needed.

  • Determine and obtain all services and programs legally authorized for ASU Preparatory Academy from all sources, local, state, federal, and other.

  • Investigate methods to reduce excess costs and to derive maximum benefits for each student from the expenditure of each resource dollar.

  • Determine and implement methods to maximize the effectiveness of instructional, curricular, special education and research activities of ASU Preparatory Academy.

  • Conduct ongoing monitoring and make recommendations that will insure the most efficient and effective instructional, curricular, special education and research activities and procedures throughout the Organization.

  • Initiate, recommend, and carry into action, procedures for evaluating the effectiveness of instruction and instructional personnel.

  • Collaborate with the curriculum team to monitor curriculum review and revision cycle and analyze pupil differences, taking the necessary steps to implement clearly identified needed changes in the instructional program.

  • Work collaboratively with immersion and network leadership to support all students.

  • Implement and manage ASU Prep instructional pedagogy and ensure its implementation in the school’s daily and overall curriculum.

  • Create strategic plans for educational and instructional programs in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and the provisions of the district’s collective bargaining agreements.

  • Reduce variability and raise the floor on teaching quality through clear expectations and consistent monitoring.

  • Act as a student advocate to ensure the rights of all students are respected and that all have equal access to the educational opportunities necessary to meet their needs and abilities; Oversees operations to protect student information, student safety, and academic integrity in accordance with local, state and federal laws and regulations.

  • Prepare state and federally mandated reports concerning the instructional, curricular, special education and research activities of ASU Preparatory Academy.

  • Monitor budget priorities based on instructional needs in cooperation with the finance team.

  • Work with the Head of Schools, Deputy Head of Schools, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Learning Officer, Executive Director of Human Capital, Executive Director of Finance and Budget and instructional Site Principals and others in staffing the schools.

  • Collaborate with the other members of the Immersion staff to make recommendations for ASU Preparatory Academy goals and objectives and long-range programs.

  • Participate in a continuing personal professional growth program.

  • Ensure all reports, master teaching schedules, records, and other paperwork comply with state and federal guidelines.

  • Assist in succession planning strategies for professional development for site leadership to create pathways and a strong leadership bench for future potential.

  • Analyze student data to identify and recommend needed changes in the instructional program to ensure that site employees demonstrate the enthusiasm, professional background, rigor and internalization of the ASU Prep way.

  • Oversee student safety and conduct, and enforces discipline as necessary in accordance with ASU Prep policy and the students’ rights to due process.

  • Ensure students have quality Individualized Learning Plans (ILPs) and other parent/teacher conferences.

  • Responsible for overall strategy for articulated, consistent education for all students while encouraging staff to develop high yield strategies, techniques and activities that reflect instructional rigor and academic excellence.

  • Travel to all immersion sites on a regular basis to ensure presence and collaboration with each site leader.

  • Communicate the ASU Prep mission to school personnel, students, parents and community.

  • Promote effective communication and cooperation among staff through regular staff meetings and department and network level meetings.

  • Implement strategies to promote a cooperative spirit among all the sites and modalities to enhance the educational and social climate ASU Preparatory Academies.

  • Collaboration with ASU and others on the college pathways and college credit programs.

  • Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

  • Directly supervises employees.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include decisions related to selection, performance appraisal, discipline and salary recommendations.

  • Promote and encourage the development, training and promotion of staff members to ensure the perpetuation of a professional and competent workforce.
